Far From The Mainstream Crowd: Outstanding Jewels At The Oscars 2016
High-shine diamonds on white gold or platinum are the norm on the annual Oscars red carpet, and this year, a whole bevy of A-listers have once again paraded a glittering array of jewellery. While the usual suspects were classic diamond necklaces, earrings and bracelets – all easy to match regardless of the gown, several celebrities caught our eye with their tasteful and non-conformist selections.
One of them was the ethereal Olivia Wilde, who stood out with her choice of a Neil Lane Edwardian-style choker with matching '50s-style pearl and diamond earrings. The pieces didn’t feature many large diamonds at all, but she pulled them off flawlessly in her Grecian-style Valentino Haute Couture ivory gown without looking dated. We hope such intricate, vintage-inspired choker necklaces make a comeback!
Another sexy style goddess was the stunning Charlize Theron, who didn’t just break the cardinal rule of eschewing red on the red carpet, but wore her ultra-long Harry Winston Secret Cluster 48.8-carat diamond pendant necklace on her statuesque Dior-clad frame so well she positively smouldered.
Meanwhile, popular red carpet fixture Cate Blanchett was a feminine sight to behold in an Armani Prive seafoam-green floral gown, accentuated with a glimmering pair of fern-patterned Tiffany & Co. diamond drop earrings and a bold, floral-motif Tiffany & Co. diamond cuff.
Jessica Alba wasn’t spotted at the Oscars ceremony, but stole the show at the Vanity Fair after-party with her statement David Webb Crescent hammered gold necklace, which contrasted beautifully with her long, flowy white Roberto Cavalli gown. She didn’t just remind us of a '40s movie star, but demonstrated that you need no diamonds if your taste is spot-on.
